Residents of Sub Council 1 are assured that the Thusong Centre building in Ward 32 has not yet been disposed of, and no final decisions have been taken.

As elected representatives we remain committed to acting in the best interests of the community and encourage residents to participate in all processes regarding the centre’s future.

The City is also warning residents to remain vigilant against housing scams targeting vulnerable communities via social media, email, SMS and WhatsApp. Scammers claim residents have been approved for RDP housing or can secure a house for a fee. Messages are often poorly written and contain spelling and grammar errors, which are clear signs of fraud. City housing is free, and no payments are required. Residents can verify any communication by calling 021 444 0333.

Wesfleur athletics trackupgrade

On 17 March 2025 I joined the Mayoral Committee member for Community Services and Health at the Wesfleur Athletics Tartan Track upgrade. This includes resurfacing the track, replacing the top layer and improving key areas such as the hammer-throw cage, take-off boards and steeplechase section.

Once complete the track will meet IAAF and SAA standards. Combined upgrades at Wesfleur and Blue Downs represent a R60 million investment in athletics infrastructure.

Law-enforcement update

In December law-enforcement officers made 664 arrests (1 163), issued 30 972 fines (31 846) and recovered 12 firearms (11), four imitation firearms (6), 69 rounds of ammunition (135) and 1 762 units of drugs (2 384). Metro Police officers made 367 arrests (112), including 66 for drunk driving (26), issued 12 353 fines (14 624) and recovered four firearms, 152 rounds of ammunition and 718 units of alcohol.
