This year we will be celebrating Atlantis 50th year of existence through various initiatives the Subcouncil has put together to celebrate this significant milestone. Not Just a bruin dorpie but to a thriving and inclusive city of hope.
We also had a tragic incidents where a taxi operator, Eugene “Spoed” Titus, and a 14-year-old young learner, Dayna-Lee Coetzee, in front of Atlantis Secondary School op 25 February and op Tuesday, 24 February two taxi operators, Silandile Clement Mlambo and Khayelethu Nonni were killed at the Witsand Taxi Rank.
We condemn these killings in the strongest terms and urge the law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in apprehending these criminals and they must face the full might of the law. As a Subcouncil we will also engage with officials from City’s Urban Mobility and as well the Western Cape Provincial Mobility Department to address these concerns raised by the Taxi Associations.

Invasive alien clearing
We manage this programme within the city, under the “Kader Asmal Inter Departmental Catchment Management Programme”, established to assist line departments in controlling and managing listed invasive alien species op City land, as well as to comply with the National Environmental Management Biodiversity Act 10 of 2004.
Key features of this programme include:
• As part of our initiative, we aim to expedite the City-owned land disposal to the private sector. Our goal is to minimize time frames and costs for new owners, eliminating the need to clear invasive vegetation and ensuring a seamless transition
• Clearing invasive alien vegetation as a means to combat crime as the foliage serve as camouflage for potential intruders
• It is a medium-term strategy to reduce unemployment and poverty and the tender is linked to the National Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).
