BETHLEHEM – A man (22) has been arrested after allegedly fatally stabbing a boy (16) in Bohlokong, near Bethlehem, during the early hours of Sunday morning.
The suspect handed himself over to police shortly after the incident and was expected to appear in the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 28 July on a charge of murder.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, officers were called to a local hospital at about 03:05 on Sunday 26 July after the boy from the Riverside section of Bohlokong was admitted with serious injuries sustained during an alleged assault. The teenager later died from his injuries.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the victim was allegedly stabbed in the head with a screwdriver while in a street in the Riverside area of Bohlokong.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, and the motive has not been established.
The alleged suspect presented himself at the Bohlokong police station, where he was arrested and detained.
A murder case has been opened, and investigations are continuing.
