A woman (22) was shot dead at her home in Bohlokong, Bethlehem, on Sunday afternoon.

Police said the couple were at their home at about 4pm when an argument broke out. The boyfriend allegedly shot the woman during the altercation. She died at the scene.

The man then went into the street, where he sustained a gunshot wound. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Police have not established what led to the argument or the shooting. A firearm was seized and will undergo forensic analysis. Police are investigating a case of murder.

On Sunday 9 August at about 11:15pm, a man shot and killed his girlfriend at their residence in Matwabeng near Senekal before taking his own life. Both were declared dead at the scene.

The firearm used was seized. Police are investigating cases of murder and inquest.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring urged members of the public, particularly young people, to seek assistance when relationships become abusive or conflict escalates.

“Early intervention can help prevent situations from escalating into serious violence,” Mophiring said.

Victims and witnesses of abuse are encouraged to report violence to the police or seek assistance from government departments and support services.

The circumstances surrounding the Bohlokong shooting remain under investigation.
