A Bethlehem auctioneer has competed against about 100 of the world’s top auctioneers at a championship in San Antonio, Texas.

Vincent Pike, the reigning South African Institute of Auctioneers (SAIA) National Auctioneer Champion, represented South Africa at the 2026 International Auctioneers Championship (IAC), held as part of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) Conference and Show.

Pike did not make it through to the final round. Fellow competitors and audience members complimented his auction chant, professionalism and ability to control a crowd.

“The weeks before leaving were filled with excitement, nerves and determination. I wanted to arrive knowing I had done everything possible to represent South Africa professionally,” he said.

Pike thanked his employer, Vleissentraal Bethlehem, as well as his family, friends and members of the livestock industry for their financial support. International flights, accommodation, conference registration, NAA membership and other expenses added up.

The IAC attracts leading auctioneers from the United States and other countries.

“Representing South Africa at the highest level of international auctioneering was a privilege. The experience has motivated me even more to continue improving and to help raise the standard of auctioneering within our own country,” Pike said.

Several audience members approached him afterwards to congratulate him and find out more about South African auctioneering.

International auctioneers praised his chant, stage presence and professionalism and encouraged him to continue competing internationally.

“The world’s best auctioneers never stop practising or learning. That mindset has inspired me to keep growing,” he said.
