The Atlantis Youth Safety Expo took place op Tuesday 31 March at Wesfleur Library, bringing young people, community members and safety service providers together to address key issues such as job opportunities, safety and violence prevention. “We want to create a space where young people feel heard, supported and are empowered to make safer choices,” said organiser Michelle Fortuin.

She said the event aimed to create a platform where organisations can engage directly with youth by showcasing their programmes and services while encouraging active participation in initiatives that promote safety and positive development.

Safety service providers took part in the expo and contributed through promotional materials or small giveaways. “These contributions help make the experience more engaging and meaningful for attendees,” Fortuin added.

Also featured were discussions, performances and interactive activities designed to encourage open dialogue and creative expression.

“This was an opportunity for young people to learn, connect, and grow,” said Fortuin.

“The Atlantis Youth Safety Expo sets out to amplify youth voices, gather valuable community insights and support ongoing safety planning and collective action within Atlantis,” she concluded.
