In light of Youth Day op 16 June, Weskus Nuus asked from our prominent youth leaders to inspire the youth of Atlantis.
“As we commemorate Youth Day op 16 June let us be reminded that the power to shape our future does not lie in the hands of others, but within us.
“If it is to be then it is up to me,” Donito Botha, youth ward-committee leader in Ward 32, said. These 10 simple words carry the weight of responsibility, a call to action and courage to rise above our circumstances.
“No matter where you come from or what challenges you’ve faced, your current situation does not define your potential. Your dreams are valid, your goals possible and your voice matters. Surround yourself with people who uplift you.
“You are the average of the top 5% of people you spend your time with. Choose your circle wisely, let it be filled with those who inspire you to grow, push yourself to dream bigger, and challenge yourself to be better. Remember, greatness doesn’t wait for perfect timing or ideal circumstances. It begins the moment you decide to take the first step forward. The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow, and the decisions you make now will echo in the future you create.
“Stand tall. Speak up. Dream big. Because if it is to be, it truly is up to you.”
Carol Koopman from Teenz Alive SA said: “If I could speak to my younger self, I’d tell her that she shouldn’t put things off until later. There may not be a later. Take the opportunities you’re given. There’s a workshop or there’s a learnership, or there’s a job; sign up!
“You don’t have to be super-serious about life, but also don’t take it for granted. Young people, our youth, put up your hand, make a positive difference and be accountable. Your life, your responsibility. You’re young only once, make it count!”
