KURUMAN – A male suspect was arrested after collecting a parcel containing dagga, which had been transported through a courier company.

The suspect was arrested by members of the John Taolo Gaetsewe Highway Patrol and Kuruman K9 Unit for dealing in dagga following the successful operationalisation of information regarding a suspicious parcel being transported to Kuruman through a courier company.

On Thursday 27 August, members received information about a suspicious package that had been transported to a Paxi agency in Kuruman. They tracked the package to the local business and waited for the intended recipient to collect it.

At approximately 14:10, the suspect entered the store and collected the parcel. He was approached by the police members and requested to open the package for inspection.

A total of nearly 2.3 kilograms of dagga, with an estimated street value of R11 350, was found inside the parcel. The suspect was arrested and is facing a charge of dealing in dagga. He is expected to appear in court soon.

The John Taolo Gaetsewe District Management commends the community members who provided the intelligence that enabled the police to act swiftly and prevent the illegal distribution of drugs within our communities.

The SAPS encourages members of the public to continue providing information about suspected criminal activities to their local police stations or through the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111.

“Information can also be provided anonymously,” said Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien, police spokesperson.

Woman arrested with drugs hidden in nappy

AUGRABIES – In another unrelated case, a 27-year-old woman was arrested for possession of drugs after dagga and tik were found concealed inside a nappy that she was carrying in a nappy bag.

Swift sharing of information and effective collaboration between police members stationed at Riemvasmaak and Augrabies resulted in the suspect’s arrest on Wednesday 26 August.

Police members at Riemvasmaak received information regarding a woman from Vredesvallei who was allegedly travelling to Augrabies to purchase drugs while reportedly carrying a child. The information was shared with the police in Augrabies.

The suspect was apprehended in Augrabies whilst on her way to catch a taxi. She was carrying a nappy bag, which was searched by the police. During the search, members discovered dagga and tik with an estimated street value of R1 800 concealed inside a nappy.

She was arrested and is expected to appear in the Augrabies Magistrates’ Court on a charge of possession of drugs, said Warrant Officer Molefi Shemane, police spokesperson.
