KIMBERLEY – An elderly couple, both 80 years old, were allegedly attacked and robbed recently at their residence in Herlear, Kimberley, by two armed suspects.

Following this incident, the Kimberley Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is appealing to members of the public for information that could assist in the investigation into this house robbery.

The incident took place on Sunday 9 August at approximately 08:00. The suspects, who were wearing balaclavas to conceal their identities, reportedly pointed a firearm at the couple and robbed them of two mobile phones and a bag containing bank cards and other items.

During the incident, the male victim was assaulted with the firearm and sustained a head injury after being struck with the butt of the weapon. The suspects also fired a shot inside the house before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police appeal for witnesses

The Kimberley Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is urging anyone who may have information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the suspects to come forward.

Information can be provided directly to the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Immanuel Jeffries, on 082 302 0407, or reported to the nearest police station. Members of the public can also contact SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or make use of the MySAPS App.

“All information received will be treated with the strictest confidentiality,” said Warrant Officer Molefi Shemane, police spokesperson.
