Police appeal for information after Carters Glen armed robbery

Three released after violent house robbery at golf estate

The three people who were questioned following a violent house robbery at the Magersfontein Memorial Golf Estate at Modderrivier, which left a mother and her teenage daughter hospitalised last week, were released by police.

They were not charged as published in an earlier police media report. Meanwhile, the police’s manhunt for the five suspects continues.

According to Warrant Officer Molefi Shemane, police spokesperson, the ordeal began late on Monday evening 6 July, at approximately 22:45.

A gang of five suspects allegedly broke into a residential home on the estate before launching a physical assault on a 40-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter. The attackers ransacked the home and fled with the victims’ personal belongings.

Both victims sustained injuries during the attack and were transported to a hospital in Kimberley for urgent medical treatment. The police confirmed they have since been discharged.

Arrested within 36 hours

A swift response and follow-up on intelligence by the police in Modderrivier led to the three males (aged 32, 34, and 36) arrest within 36 hours of the crime. The first two persons (aged 32 and 34) were apprehended on Tuesday afternoon 7 July at approximately 16:00, while the third person, aged 36, was taken in for questioning during an early morning raid in the Modderrivier area on Wednesday 8 July.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has appealed to members of the community for any information that could lead to further breakthroughs. Anyone with information is urged to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Abigail Morgan, on 082 495 4711.

Alternatively, tips can be reported anonymously to the nearest police station, via the SAPS Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111, or through the MySAPS mobile application.

The police have assured the public that all information received will be treated with the strictest confidentiality. The police emphasised that investigations are ongoing.
