A West Coast resident who wishes to remain anonymous has approached Weslander with concerns regarding the registration status of White Dove Crèche in Noordhoek, Velddrif.
In a letter to the newspaper, the resident alleges that the organisation was deregistered by the Department of Social Development’s NPO Directorate on 11 June 2026, but has continued operating without informing parents or guardians of the change in its status.
The resident further alleges that the crèche continues to collect monthly fees while the deregistration remains in effect and has called for the matter to be investigated. The letter also states that the organisation’s NPO status can be verified through the Department of Social Development’s online NPO register.
Weslander approached the Board of White Dove Crèche for comment.
In its response, the Board confirmed that the organisation has lodged a formal appeal against the deregistration in terms of the Non-profit Organisations Act, 1997, and that the matter is currently before the NPO Appeals Tribunal.
According to the Board, the organisation is following the statutory appeal process and will abide by the tribunal’s decision once it has been communicated.
The Board further emphasised that the appeal relates to the organisation’s NPO registration status and does not affect the operation of the crèche as a Partial Care Facility under the Children’s Act.
It said White Dove continues to comply with all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements governing childcare facilities and remains committed to providing a safe and caring environment for the children entrusted to its care.
The Board rejected allegations of deliberate misconduct or a lack of transparency, saying it remains committed to sound governance, accountability and acting in the best interests of the children, parents, staff and the wider community.
It also appealed to members of the public to allow the statutory appeals process to run its course before drawing conclusions about the organisation’s legal status.
Weslander will continue to monitor the matter and report on the outcome of the appeal once a decision has been made.
