WITSAND, ATLANTIS – About 150 people attended the launch of a community solar-lighting initiative in Witsand, near Atlantis, where 300 wall-mounted solar lights have been installed.
The event brought residents, project partners and local representatives together. A formal programme was followed by a walkabout through the community, where residents engaged with project representatives about the initiative.

The lighting project was also discussed in the context of broader concerns raised by residents about conditions in the community.
One resident used the occasion to call on people to speak up about issues affecting Witsand. “We as people should not keep quiet. We should be a voice for those who do not have a voice, otherwise there will be no change if we do not speak up.”
The 300 solar lights have been installed as wall-mounted units at homes in the area.
Gerda Heyman, who is involved in the project, attended the launch along with other project partners and community representatives.
