More than 750 children participated in a Child Protection Month awareness campaign in Maokeng on Wednesday, 3 June.
The campaign was led by the Maokeng Social Crime Prevention Unit and the Maokeng Community Police Forum, with support from community organisations.
Officials visited Maokeng Primary School, where 714 learners participated in sessions on children’s rights, personal safety, abuse prevention and reporting incidents of neglect and violence.
Learners were encouraged to seek help from adults, educators and law enforcement agencies when necessary.
The campaign later moved to Kgotsong Creche in Koe Koe Village, where 36 children participated in educational activities and interactive learning sessions on child safety.
The initiative was supported by members of the Community Police Forum, Social Crime Prevention Unit, the Gender-Based Violence Coordinator, Rural Safety Coordinator, Youth Crime Prevention representatives, Sisterhood Hlanganisa and educators from local schools.
