A man (32) has been arrested and charged with murder following the death of his father in Mokwallo, near Vredefort.

Police responded to a report of an alleged assault at a house in the Mapetla section of Mokwallo at about 16:10 on Sunday 2 August. Officers found Ndode Lenong (61) lying on a bed with serious head injuries and facial swelling.

Police were informed that Lenong had allegedly been assaulted by his son with an unidentified object. He was taken to Parys Hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Bloemfontein for further treatment. Lenong died from his injuries at about 09:10 on Monday 3 August.

Police allege that the father and son had argued over a cigarette shortly before the alleged assault.

The suspect was arrested at his home and charged with murder. He is expected to appear in the Vredefort Magistrate’s Court soon.

Police investigations are continuing, says spokesperson Sgt. Josephine Rani.
