St Charles College, Pietermaritzburg, proudly celebrates the remarkable achievements of two of its learners. James Isaac (Form 5) and Keagan Hewer (Form 3) excelled in the Old Mutual South African Mathematics Olympiad.
In May, both boys distinguished themselves by ranking among the top 100 participants nationally — an exceptional accomplishment in itself. Their outstanding performance earned them a place in the prestigious third and final round, which they wrote on Thursday, 30 July.
This final stage is a rigorous four-hour problem-solving examination that demands advanced mathematical reasoning and creativity under strict conditions. It includes completing the paper without the use of a calculator. Reaching this level places James and Keagan among South Africa’s most talented young mathematicians and reflects their dedication, perseverance, and exceptional analytical ability.
St Charles College extends its heartfelt congratulations to James and Keagan on this outstanding achievement and wishes them every success as they await the results of the final round. — Mrs Charlotte Pillay (Head of Mathematics)
