Northwood High School, Durban, is proud to announce the outstanding achievements of its swimmers at the SA Open Grand Prix, held in Pietermaritzburg this past weekend. Representing the school with distinction, Northwood Swimmers Evan Huang, Ashton Isted, Damien Frew, and Riley Hemphill showcased skill, determination, and competitive spirit against some of the country’s finest athletes.
Podium Success for Riley Hemphill
The highlight of the weekend came from Riley Hemphill, who secured three podium finishes:
- 200m Breaststroke – 2nd place | 2:18.04
- 50m Breaststroke – 2nd place | 29.33
- 100m Breaststroke – 3rd place | 1:03.92
Hemphill also achieved commendable results in the 100m IM (11th), 50m Butterfly (15th), 50m Freestyle (14th), and 200m IM (11th), underscoring his versatility across strokes and distances.
Strong Performances Across the Team
- Damien Frew impressed with top‑10 finishes in the 100m IM (8th), 100m Freestyle (6th), 50m Butterfly (7th), and 50m Freestyle (6th).
- Evan Huang delivered solid results in breaststroke events, including 17th in the 200m Breaststroke and 24th in the 100m Breaststroke.
- Ashton Isted demonstrated consistency, placing 14th in the 100m Butterfly and securing competitive finishes in freestyle and sprint butterfly events.
