The Diocesan School for Girls, Makhanda, proudly hosted the U16 Rising Champions Challengers Cup, a weekend that blended competitive hockey with camaraderie and community spirit.
From the opening whistle, the atmosphere on campus was indeed electric. Schools from across the country joined DSG. They filled the grounds with energy, laughter, and the unmistakable sound of hockey sticks on Astro. While the matches were fiercely contested, it was the friendships formed off the field that made the event truly memorable. Players who arrived as rivals also quickly became familiar faces, cheering each other on and sharing in the joy of the tournament.
The Eastern Cape weather added its own character — crisp mornings, chilly evenings, and layers aplenty — yet the hockey never faltered. Every match was tightly fought, with teams pushing each other to the very last second.
The final match proved a fitting climax. Garsfontein and Ashton International College Ballito battled to a 1–1 draw as time expired. A dramatic last‑minute penalty corner secured Garsfontein’s 2–1 victory. Congratulations to Garsfontein on claiming the title. Ashton International College Ballito finished a strong second, and Collegiate secured third.
This event would not have been possible without the dedication of coaches, managers, officials, Team Hosts, boarding and catering staff, volunteers, and the many hands behind the scenes. To every visiting school, thank you for making the journey to DSG.
