WELKOM – The Free State Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit has appealed to the public for assistance in identifying four individuals who may be able to assist investigators following an armed robbery at a retail store in Welkom.

The robbery took place at approximately 10:00 on Wednesday, 22 July, at a shop situated on the corner of Bok and Muizen Streets.

According to police, a 49-year-old store manager was assisting a customer at a till when she was approached by an unknown man. The suspect allegedly told her he was “there to work” before demanding that she cooperate and hand over the cash from the till.

When the manager informed him that there was no money in her till, the suspect allegedly instructed her to open a neighbouring cashier’s till. He then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

A case of armed robbery has been opened at Welkom SAPS, with the investigation now being conducted by the Free State Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit.

Police are urging anyone who can identify the four individuals shown in the released images, or who has information that could assist the investigation, to come forward.

Police have emphasised that even seemingly minor information could prove vital in advancing the investigation and bringing those responsible to justice.
