WELKOM – Welkom police are investigating a business robbery after three armed men allegedly held up staff and customers at a barbershop before fleeing in a customer’s vehicle.
The robbery took place at about 09:10 on Friday, 10 July, at a barbershop in Langenhoven Street, Jan Cilliers Park.
According to police spokesperson Sgt Palesa Thabana, three men wearing balaclavas and gloves entered the business and ordered three employees and two customers to move to the back of the shop and into the kitchen.
Victims forced to lie down
One of the suspects allegedly pointed a firearm at the victims, while the other two were also armed. The victims were reportedly forced to lie on the floor while the suspects searched the premises.
The robbers allegedly stole two sets of vehicle keys, the business keys, a Samsung Galaxy S24 cellphone, an iPhone 15 Pro Max and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspects then fled the scene in a white Kia Picanto, registration number HJZ 086 FS, belonging to one of the customers.
A case of business robbery has been opened and is under investigation.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in tracing the suspects or the stolen vehicle to contact the Welkom SAPS on 079 886 5574. Information can also be provided anonymously by calling the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS App.
