WELKOM – Welkom police are appealing to the public for information that could help identify and arrest three suspects wanted in connection with a robbery involving a firearm.

The incident occurred after a 50-year-old man was allegedly lured into providing transport to a stranger who claimed he needed assistance collecting chickens.

According to police, the incident took place on Saturday, 29 August, at about 14:45. The complainant was driving out of a local shopping complex in Jan Hofmeyer Road, near Manny’s Welkom, when he was approached by an unknown man.

The man allegedly asked the complainant for a lift to the Steyn 1 area in Welkom, saying he needed to collect his chickens. The complainant agreed and drove the man to the identified location.

When they arrived at the kraals, two more men allegedly approached the vehicle and pointed a firearm at the complainant.

The suspects allegedly robbed him of his valuables and an undisclosed amount of money before all three fled the scene on foot, leaving the victim behind.

A case of robbery with a firearm was opened at the Welkom police station and is being investigated.

No arrests have been made.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information about the suspects or the incident to come forward.
