WELKOM – Welkom police have opened a culpable homicide investigation following a fatal road incident on Sunday morning.

Karen Liebenberg (53) was declared deceased at the scene after being struck by a motor vehicle on Toronto Road in Welkom on 30 August.

The incident

The collision occurred at approximately 06:00 when Liebenberg had alighted from her white Volkswagen Polo, which she had been driving northbound on Toronto Road.

According to police information, she crossed to the opposite side of the road where she was allegedly struck by a white Volkswagen Passat travelling in a southbound direction.

Emergency services attended the scene, but Liebenberg was declared deceased.

Investigation underway

Welkom police are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.

No further details have been released at this stage as investigations continue.
