WELKOM – Welkom police are appealing for information to help identify and locate a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident in Reitzpark.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 29 August, in Constantia Road, where police attended a motor vehicle and pedestrian collision.

According to police, an African woman was struck by a BMW. The vehicle’s registration number and colour are unknown.

It is alleged that the driver failed to stop after the collision, leaving the pedestrian severely injured. She was declared dead at the scene and was later identified by her family.

Welkom police have opened a case of culpable homicide, and the driver involved remains at large.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could help identify the vehicle or trace the driver to come forward.
