The Welkom Serious and Violent Crimes (SVC) Unit has launched a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of a 49-year-old man at a filling station in Flamingo Park, Welkom, on Tuesday evening.
Police were summoned to a shooting incident in Constantia Road at about 18:49 on 1 September. On arrival, officers found an African man lying motionless on the driveway of the filling station.
The victim, identified as Setsumi Jeremiah Motaung, 49, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head. He was declared dead at the scene.
According to police information, Motaung was standing at a fuel pump next to his black Mercedes-Benz C-Class when he was allegedly approached by two unidentified African men, both armed with handguns.
The suspects allegedly fired several shots at Motaung before fleeing the scene on foot. He sustained fatal injuries in the attack.
The motive for the murder remains unknown and no arrests have been made.
The Welkom SVC Unit is continuing with investigations to identify and trace the suspects responsible for the shooting.
