McWilliams Academy brings home Top Dance Studio Award


Dancers from the McWilliams Academy of Dance studio in Gqeberha brought home plenty of medals, ribbons and the Top Studio award, after competing at the La Lucia Irish Dance Competition in Durban, on August 5.

The competition was adjudicated by Sarah Clark from the UK, and drew competitors from across the country.

The following dancers did particularly well:

  • Megan Walker won the Special Section for girls 16 years and over, with Em Wedderburn fourth, and Mia Jonker fifth
  • Shanna du Plessis won the Special Section for girls 15 years and younger
  • Alison Rennie won the Traditional Set (“Advanced Tus”) and was placed third in the Special Section for girls 15 years and younger
  • Kate Erlank won the PC4 (“Advanced Tus Ghrad”), with Kate Rose-Innes in second place.
  • The Academy excelled on the day, and was thrilled to bring home the trophy for the best performing studio over the day’s events.
  • “I am very proud of the outstanding results our dancers achieved at this very competitive event,” said Jennifer McWilliams.
  • “We are now continuing the hard work to prepare for the South African Irish Dance Championships at the end of September.”
