GQEBERHA – The Gelvandale Community Police Forum (CPF) hosted an Imbizo focused on high levels of crime in the area, with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) taking part in the engagement.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders and created a space for open discussion. Community members were able to raise concerns, ask questions and share ideas on practical solutions to ongoing challenges.
Senior Public Prosecutor, Chris Siyolo, said the NPA is available “around the clock” to assist law enforcement efforts.
“The NPA remains available, 24/7 to work with our partners to ensure that justice is served and communities are protected,” he said.
Prosecutor, Advocate Gugu Mampofu, encouraged young people to stay away from crime and make positive life choices.
Meanwhile, residents raised several key social challenges. These included overcrowding in areas such as Helenvale, limited access to identity documents and the vulnerability of young people exposed to crime and gangsterism.
One of the main proposals discussed was the possible establishment of the Helenvale Girls’ Academy. The project aims to keep young girls off the streets and provide better opportunities for their future.
The NPA reiterated its commitment to working with stakeholders and communities to fight crime and gender-based violence and femicide (GBV&F). It said cooperation remains key to ensuring justice is accessible and responsive to community needs.
