GQEBERHA – SAPS Gelvandale is investigating a case of murder following the discovery of the body of an 18-year-old woman from Gelvandale at a residence in Mountview Drive, Malabar, on Tuesday afternoon, 28 July.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg formally identified the deceased as Robyn-Lee Clarke, who was reported missing at SAPS Gelvandale on Sunday, 26 July, at approximately 15:30.

“Police immediately launched an investigation to trace her whereabouts,” she said.

Janse van Rensburg added that information gathered during the investigation revealed that Clarke had allegedly visited her boyfriend, a foreign national, on Saturday, 25 July, and never returned home.

According to her mother, it was not unusual for her daughter to be away from home for a few days before returning.

She added that police followed up on all available information and visited the boyfriend’s residence, where they found the premises locked.

“Further enquiries led members to a shop in Jupiter Street, where they were informed that the owner resided in Mountview Drive, Malabar, and had reportedly left for Cape Town,” Janse van Rensburg added.

“At approximately 13:45 on Tuesday, 28 July, police returned to the Mountview Drive address. After obtaining permission from the property owner, members forced entry into the premises, where they discovered the body of Robyn-Lee Clarke inside the house,” she said. “The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation, and no arrests have been made at this stage.”
