GQEBERHA – A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for the murder of 56-year-old Jefferson Williams in Schauderville, Gqeberha.
According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, Jason Clarke was sentenced on Friday, 16 October, after being convicted of murder.
“He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” she said.
Janse van Rensburg added that the incident occurred at a residence in Jameson Road on 10 December 2024.
“Clarke and Williams became involved in an argument and a fight broke out,” she said. “Clarke later returned to the residence and entered a bedroom where Williams was speaking with his granddaughter.”
She added that Clarke first attempted to stab the granddaughter, but Williams intervened and was stabbed in the right arm.
“Clarke then stabbed Williams several times in the neck, shoulder, flank and buttocks,” she said. “Williams was taken to Livingstone Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.”
Clarke was arrested on 11 December 2024 for the murder.
Janse van Rensburg noted that the case was investigated by Sergeant Sergio Mack of the Gelvandale Detectives.
“Gelvandale Station Commander Brigadier Abdoerahgmaan Humphries commended Sergeant Mack for the thorough investigation that contributed to the successful conviction,” she concluded.
