GQEBERHA – A 36-year-old man was shot and killed while seated on a bar chair in a garage in Moduka Street, New Brighton, on 3 July.

A second man was wounded in the same attack when unknown suspects opened fire before fleeing on foot.

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, detectives from New Brighton SAPS are appealing to members of the public for information that could assist in the investigation into the murder and attempted murder.

She said it is alleged that at approximately 13:50, a man was visiting a friend at a residence in Moduka Street when he was shot multiple times while seated on a bar chair in the garage.

Janse Van Rensburg said that, according to witnesses, unknown suspects approached and opened fire before fleeing the scene on foot.

“The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and face and was declared dead at the scene,” said Janse Van Rensburg.

She further said that a second victim sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm and was transported by private vehicle to Livingstone Hospital for medical treatment.

“The motive for the attack is unknown, and no arrests have been made. A case of murder and attempted murder is under investigation,” said Janse Van Rensburg.

She said anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information that could assist detectives in tracing the suspects is urged to contact the investigating officer, Captain Snayders, on 082 303 1029.
