GQEBERHA – A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Gqeberha Ward 27 councillor Sicelo Mleve, nearly two weeks after the politician was shot dead at his office in Zwide.
The suspect was expected to appear in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court today, Friday 3 July, facing charges of murder, armed robbery and the possession of firearms. Police said additional charges could still be added as the investigation continues.

According to Eastern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, Mleve was fatally shot at his office in Zwide on 20 June at about 18.50.
“Police immediately launched a manhunt for the two suspects. On 2 July, members of the Provincial Serious Violent Crime Investigation Unit apprehended a 20-year-old male suspect in KwaZakhele,” Gantana said.
She said the suspect would make his first court appearance in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court today.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and that further arrests cannot be ruled out.
