MAMELODI Sundowns Supporters Eastern Cape Branch continue what they started three years ago as they donated six pairs of school shoes and six pairs of school socks to Coega Primary School in Wells Estates last Tuesday.
According to Mamelodi Sundowns Supporters Eastern Cape branch secretary, Lulamile Ruu Mzayiya, their project “donate with any school item to a needy child in your own community” was started in 2020.
“We decided to start this project as a commitment of doing monthly contributions per member to the most desperate school children. We knew that some children come from poor backgrounds. We felt that we should come up with ways of restoring their dignity so that they could cope like any children at school. All our supporters agreed that we should help these needy school children. So, in 2020 we started this project.”
When handing over the school shoes and socks, Mzayiya highlighted that the fundamental objective of the project was Sundowns supporters’ way of ploughing back to the community in the name of Ubuntu-Butho which is the initiative of Mamelodi Sundowns former president Dr Patrice Tlhopane Motsepe who is Confederation African Football (CAF) president. The children were very happy and Coega Primary School deputy principal Bukelwa Ralane thanked Sundowns supporters’ provincial branch officials.
