Police are hunting a Gauteng pastor who allegedly raped a woman and killed her four-month-old baby after luring them to a river near Atteridgeville for a spiritual ritual. The mother broke free and ran to a nearby construction site for help. The pastor’s wife was arrested and led police to the baby’s body in a shallow grave. The pastor is on the run.
The Road Accident Fund is in deep financial trouble, with liabilities exceeding R400 billion. The fund gets about R4 billion a month from the fuel levy, but a backlog of 422,000 claims keeps outpacing income. Barbara Creecy says the fund must find new funding as more drivers switch to electric cars.
In neighbouring Mozambique, a South African mechanic held by ISIS-linked fighters for nearly a month has been released unharmed. He was seized in a raid on a hunting camp in Niassa province on the 3rd of September. The government says it paid no ransom. Seven others, including children, are still missing.
