The Suzuki Stadium in Kimberley will showcase rugby at all levels on Saturday 25 July, with the Suzuki Griquas’ Currie Cup home match against Vodacom Bulls headlining a programme that includes women’s, U19 and U17 fixtures.

The previous Saturday, AVBOB Griquas Women romped to a runaway 73 – 15 win over the Limpopo Blue Bulls at the Suzuki Stadium in Kimberley. The round three clash in the Pick n Pay Women’s Super League 2 put the Northern Cape side back on track after a 67 – 29 defeat to the Hollywoodbets Pumas Women in round one.

The Griquas piled on 46 points in the second half alone. They ran in 12 tries in total, with wing Maserati Bangaza grabbing four and prop Nicole van Wyk bagging a hat-trick.

Bangaza opened the scoring four minutes in, and Van Wyk crossed five minutes later. A try from centre Jennielee van Nel had the home side on 15 – 0 after 11 minutes.

Limpopo hit back through Seetja Mmotong before Bangaza added her support for a 27 – 5 half-time lead, according to SA Rugby’s match report.

What followed was 30 minutes of the best rugby the Suzuki Stadium crowd had seen from the Griquas Women in recent times. They scored at regular intervals to rack up their biggest tally in a while.

The win lifted the Griquas Women to fourth on the log with six points. The Pumas Women lead the way on 15 points, followed by the Leopards Women on 10, with the Valke Women sitting third.

Scorers for the Griquas – tries: Nicole van Wyk (3), Siziphiwe Dubulamanzi, Donishea Cloete, Maserati Bangaza (4), Tyrell Wilson, Jennielee van Nel, and Forgiveness Mashele (2); Conversions: Jean-Marie Owies (1) and Van Nel (3). Dubulamanzi was named player of the match.

Griquas Super League

The provincial finals of the men’s Griquas Super League followed the women’s clash.

The Young Stars Rugby Football Club from Port Nolloth met the Kakamas Rugby Club to determine this year’s Super League B winner, with Kakamas winning with 76 – 5.

The Sol Plaatje University (SPU) then took on the Sishen Rugby Club in Super League A, with the university side dominating 54 – 25.

The time frame for Saturday’s matches are:

• At 10:40, Curro U17 face off against Gariep U17.
• At 12:00, Griquas Women meet the Valke in round four.
• At 14:30, Curro U19 face Gariep U19.
• At 17:00, the Currie Cup match between the Griquas and Vodacom Bulls kicks off.
