SA Cup | ‘Rugby perfection’: Griquas secure fourth consecutive victory

The Suzuki Griquas continued their winning streak in this year’s SA Cup series when they defeated the Novita Griffons 71-7, sending them home with a comprehensive victory.

This match, described as “rugby perfection,” took place on Saturday 28 March at the Suzuki Stadium in Kimberley. Griquas took on the Griffons in their fourth match of this year’s SA Cup series, securing a fourth consecutive victory for the Northern Cape side.

Within the first 12 minutes, Griquas already led 12-0, and by half-time they had extended their advantage to 31-0. The home side dominated from start to finish, securing a commanding 71-7 victory.

Griquas remain unbeaten atop the table with 20 points, having secured maximum points from all four fixtures. As Currie Cup champions, they aim to win both the SA Cup and Currie Cup this year.

  • Their next challenge comes on 11 April at 15:00 in Wellington when they face the Sanlam Boland Kavaliers.

Winning head coach stays

This week, Griqualand West Rugby Union (GWRU) announced the contract extension of its Currie Cup-winning head coach Pieter Bergh.

“Bergh, who has led the team with great distinction since becoming head coach, has extended his contract until 2029, and as a union we are extremely happy and excited for what the future brings,” GWRU stated.
