Kumba Iron Ore’s privately operated Sishen Airport has been awarded the Gold Aviation Safety Award for displaying high safety standards. This came after the airport underwent its annual compliance audit led by Liston and Associates, an auditing group specialising in aviation safety, and was measured against International Civil Aviation Organization standards.

“This recognition is a testament to the unwavering commitment our team has, which puts the safety of our people and partners above all else,” says Liana Blaauw, manger of the Transportation and Facilities section at Kumba Iron Ore.

“As a facility open to public use, we are proud that no audit findings were noted by the advisors. This demonstrates the dedication the airport staff have towards the safety of passengers. We will continue to work diligently to comply and maintain these standards, as we serve as an important gateway for travel and opportunities to the region.” 

The airport, based in Kathu, is a South African Civil Aviation Authority licensed facility servicing Kumba’s logistical and public transportation needs, connecting this area to Johannesburg via direct flights.
