Teachers from the Northern Cape will on 1 October attend the annual National Teaching Awards (NTA) event in Johannesburg.
Recently, on 26 August, the provincial winners in several categories were announced for the Northern Cape at an event held in Kimberley.
The list of the provincial winners are:
- Louise Theron, Nico Bekker Primary School in Williston, Namakwa District: Excellence in Gr.R Teaching;
- Ané Rossouw, Springbok Primary School, Namakwa: Excellence in Primary School Teaching;
- Sofia Quiso, Keidebees Intermediate School in Upington, ZF Mcgawu (ZFM) District: Excellence in Teaching Life Skills;
- Ludwig Schmidt, Springbok Primary School, Namakwa: Excellence in Primary School Leadership;
- Danushka Forbes-Julius, Hotazel Primary at Hotazel College, John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District: Excellence in Secondary School Teaching:
- Koegamat Sadick Thomas, Kimberley Technical High School, Frances Baard (FB) District: Excellence in Secondary School Leadership;
- Lario Odendaal, Jannie Brink Special School in Kimberley, FB: Excellence in Inclusive Education Teaching;
- Johan van Zyl, Elizabeth Conradie Special School in Kimberley, FB: Excellence in Inclusive Leadership;
- Albertus Goosen, Calvinia Primary School, Namakwa: Excellence in Teaching Mathematics;
- Ruann Blignault, Kimberley Girls High School, FB: Excellence in Teaching Mathematics (FET);
- Mpho Kgaje, Iketletetso Intermediate School in Kuruman, JTG: Excellence in Natural Sciences Teaching;
- Niël Carlson, S.A van Wyk High School in Springbok, Namakwa: Excellence in Physical Sciences Teaching;
- Lesley Magano, Tlhatlogang Intermediate School in Warrenton, FB: Excellence in Technology enhanced teaching and learning;
- Ikraam Steenkamp, Kimberley Technical High School, FB: National Best Teacher Award Category; and
- Bernadine Bostander, principal of Douglas Primary School, Pixley ka Seme District: Kader Asmal Lifetime Achievement Award.
The NTA scheme is an initiative by the Department of Basic Education to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of teachers, often in challenging conditions.
These educators offer better futures for learners, as quality education is crucial in addressing social, political, and economic challenges, including poverty, prejudice, and conflict, the department stated.
