The Hull Street Theatre in De Beers, Kimberley, is excited to announce auditions for the upcoming production of My Children! My Africa!

Producers of this play by Athol Fugard are specifically looking for a white woman aged 18 to 30 years for the role of Isabel Dyson.

Dyson is an 18-year-old white student from the privileged Camdeboo Girls’ High School. She is intelligent, energetic, open-minded, and initially naive about the daily, harsh realities of apartheid, having lived a sheltered life.

My Children! My Africa! explores the conflict between intellectual debate and violent protest in apartheid-era South Africa through the characters Mr. M (traditional teacher), Thami (radical student) and Isabel (liberal white student). Key themes include the power of education, the necessity of language over violence, and the struggle for equality.

  • Women interested in playing this role can submit a self-tape audition on WhatsApp, sending it to 069 595 3446. Alternatively, email it to hullstreet.theatre@outlook.com.
  • The closing date is Friday 20 March at noon.
