Helderberg charge over the advantage line blocked by UWC.

After two weeks on the road, Helderberg Rugby Club marked their return to home soil at Charles Morkel on Saturday 2 May, with an emphatic performance against UWC, delivering an entertaining and high-scoring encounter for their supporters.

It was the visitors who struck first, with Divan Peters slotting a penalty just two minutes into the match to give UWC an early 3โ€“0 lead.

However, Helderberg responded almost immediately. In the 5th minute, Jayden Daniels crossed the line for the home sideโ€™s opening try, setting the tone for what would become an attacking showcase.

Momentum continued to build as Mauritz Swart added a second try just five minutes later, putting Helderberg firmly in control. UWC fought back in the 19th minute when Coren Hess went over for their first try, keeping the visitors within reach.

Relentless

Helderberg, however, proved relentless. Around the 26-minute mark, Blaine Skelton powered over for another try, with Darren Hendricks adding the extras.

Just three minutes later, Erhard Lambrecht extended the lead further, once again with Hendricks converting.

Before halftime, Dian Koen capped off a dominant first half with yet another try, and Hendricks remained flawless from the tee.

The second half saw UWC show some resistance, with Juma Amisi scoring their second try in the 61st minute.

But Helderberg quickly shut down any hopes of a comeback. In the 66th minute, Hendricks showcased his all-round ability by scoring and converting his own try.

Junior Fortuin followed suit in the 71st minute, dotting down and adding the conversion himself. Helderbergโ€™s attacking masterclass was fittingly concluded by Quinn Visser, who scored the teamโ€™s eighth try of the match, with Hendricks once again adding the final conversion.

It was a commanding display from Helderberg in front of their home crowd, combining clinical finishing with accurate kicking to secure a memorable victory in their return to Charles Morkel. Helderberg now hit the road once again for the next two weeks, with their upcoming fixture against False Bay at Phillip Herbstein.

Having secured a win against them in last yearโ€™s 2025 season, Helderberg will be confident of continuing their strong run of form away from home.
