Kearsney travelled to Hilton College on Saturday, 13 June, for their 24th fixture of an exceptionally demanding schoolboy hockey season. The boys are determined to build momentum and close the term on a positive note.
The hosts signaled their intent from the outset, applying relentless pressure in the opening exchanges. Their aggressive approach was rewarded midway through the first quarter when sustained possession led to the opening goal. Kearsney struggled to settle into rhythm and were forced to chase the game early.
Hilton maintained control in the second quarter, dictating play and doubling their advantage before the break. Although Kearsney produced glimpses of promise through this demanding schoolboy hockey game with structured build-up phases, they lacked the cutting edge in the attacking circle to seriously test Hilton’s defense.
The third quarter brought a spirited response from Kearsney. The contest became more balanced as the visitors carved out several promising opportunities and forced multiple short corners. Yet, despite their improved intensity, missed chances and resolute Hilton defending kept the scoreline unchanged.
With time running out, Kearsney committed numbers forward in search of a breakthrough. The match opened up, creating space across the field and raising the tempo. While Kearsney pressed hard to claw their way back, Hilton capitalised on the stretched play, striking a decisive third goal with six minutes remaining. That blow effectively sealed a 3–0 victory for the hosts.
Despite the result, Kearsney’s resilience and determination in the latter stages reflected the character of a team that has endured one of the most challenging seasons in recent memory.
