Touwsriver couple in court for rape, murder of child


A mother from Touwsriver and her life partner made their first court appearance on 7 August in connection with the rape and murder of her seven-year-old biological child.

The case has been postponed until today (Thursday, 13 August) for the accused to apply for legal aid and to gather information for a possible bail application.

Constable Ndakhe Gwala, police spokesperson, confirmed that the police arrested two suspects following the rape and murder of a seven-year-old child at Belmaweg Street in Touwsriver on 3 August. According to Gwala the child had bruises, a broken leg and was sexually penetrated. The police said the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Standard Breederivier Gazette has learned from a reliable source that the deceased was mentally and physically disabled as well as deaf and blind.

According to the source the accused also face a charge relating to sexual abuse and child abuse involving a three-year-old child that was also in the care of the accused.

The accused remain in custody.
