VELDDRIF – The 10th annual Velddrif Mile, 3 km, and Fun Swim, 1,6 km, will take place on Saturday 14 November at the Port Owen Marina.

The event, sponsored by Realtors of Excellence West Coast, will feature three categories: a 500 m Fun Swim, the 1,6 km Velddrif Mile and a 3 km Advanced Swim.

Online entries for the 1,6 km and 3 km events are open from Tuesday 1 September until Saturday 31 October. Entries for these two events are limited to 200 participants. There is no limit on entries for the 500 m Fun Swim, and participants may enter on the day.

Registration for the 1,6 km and 3 km events will take place from 06:30 to 07:45 at East Basin, Elizabeth East Avenue, Port Owen. The race briefing is at 07:45, with both swims starting at 08:15 in the canal.

Transport from East Basin to the starting points will be provided. Participants are advised to have their own support team to look after personal belongings.

The 500 m Fun Swim is open to all ages and fitness levels. Lilos and pool noodles may be used, but flippers are not permitted. Participants are encouraged to dress up for the Best Spirit prize.

Registration for the Fun Swim is from 08:45 to 09:45 at the Port Owen Slipway, 1 Marina Centre. The briefing will take place at 09:55, with the swim starting at 10:10.

Prize-giving will take place at approximately 11:15 at the Port Owen Yacht Club in Bronwen Street. Each entrant will receive a medal, with cash prizes, trophies and lucky-draw prizes also available.

Groups of five or more receive a 10% discount, while groups of 10 or more receive a 20% discount.

A swimming cap is compulsory for the 1,6 km and 3 km events. A visibility buoy or brightly coloured swimwear is recommended.
