Police and Correctional Services officials took their message against gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide to the streets of Sasolburg in a community awareness campaign aimed at uniting residents against abuse.

The 5 km Community in Blue awareness walk took place on Wednesday 14 October, starting at the Sasolburg Correctional Services Centre, proceeding through the central business district and returning to the centre along a different route.

The initiative brought members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Correctional Services together to raise awareness of the need to prevent violence against women and children.

Const Kelello Patsa from SAPS said the walk aimed to unite the community and reinforce the message that violence against women and children must come to an end.

The campaign highlighted the importance of collective action in confronting gender-based violence and femicide, with law enforcement and correctional officials using the initiative to encourage greater community awareness and support for safer communities.
