Police in Koppies carried out a roadside awareness campaign this week aimed at promoting road safety and tackling gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

The operation, held on Wednesday 15 April along the Koppies-Kwakwatsi road, brought together officers of the Koppies SAPS, neighbouring stations, the community policing forum (CPF) and the Youth Desk.

The initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to engage directly with the public while addressing concerns around GBVF in the district. During the campaign, officers stopped motorists to check compliance with traffic regulations, including valid driving licences, vehicle roadworthiness, and responsible driving behaviour.

Pedestrians were also approached and advised on personal safety, how to report crime, and the support services available through the SAPS.

Information pamphlets on road safety and GBVF prevention were distributed to members of the public as part of the awareness drive.

In total, 62 motorists and pedestrians were reached during the operation.
