Night-time construction work is set to begin along AZ Berman Drive in Mitchells Plain as the City of Cape Town continues its MyCiTi Phase 2A project.

The work, which will take place between Nduli Street and Wespoort Drive, is due to start on Monday 14 September and continue until 14 December, if all goes according to plan.

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate is carrying out the road and transport improvements to prepare the route for expanded MyCiTi bus services.

Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayco member for urban mobility, said: “These improvements are aimed at enhancing our road network and preparing this corridor for expanded MyCiTi services, which allows us to provide better public transport and travel conditions for the residents of Mitchells Plain to keep Cape Town moving day after day.”

He added: “I would like to thank residents, businesses and commuters for their continued patience as some construction-related noise may occur over the next few months.”

What to expect

The work will be carried out from Monday to Saturday, between 19:00 and 05:00, and some construction-related noise may occur during these hours.

Residential properties, businesses and public facilities with approved access will remain open throughout the construction period.

Road users can expect temporary traffic flow changes along sections of AZ Berman Drive, with traffic signage and traffic officials on hand to guide them safely through the construction area.
