Construction of new MyCiTi bus stations in Hanover Park and Mitchells Plain is set to start in the first week of September if all goes as planned, the City said in a release.
The project forms part of the MyCiTi bus-service expansion that will connect Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha with Claremont and Wynberg.
Rob Quintas, Mayco Member for Urban Mobility, said residents will soon see the new infrastructure take shape.

“We are now reaching exciting milestones of our MyCiTi Phase 2A project where residents will finally be able to see the infrastructure materialise and have a better idea of what to expect. The new public-transport infrastructure and routes are definitely worth looking forward to. The construction of the new MyCiTi bus stations in Hanover Park and Mitchells Plain will commence early in September. We look forward to sharing the details of these projects with residents before the works commence at the various information sessions that we will host over the next two weeks. These beautiful stations are easily accessible and located at central locations in Hanover Park and Mitchells Plain.
“We are bringing the MyCiTi bus service to Hanover Park and extending its footprint in Mitchells Plain as part of our commitment to giving more Capetonians access to safe and reliable public transport. We need to keep Cape Town moving by improving accessibility, safety and comfort for commuters, something these new stations will definitely be offering residents on their daily commute.” He said the MyCiTi Phase 2A project was being built along the Lansdowne-Wetton Corridor, which runs from Claremont and Wynberg in the west to Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain in the east. Stations were being placed in the middle of the main routes so passengers can get on and off buses easily.
Sesame Station, Hanover Park Station and the existing Mitchells Plain Station will be expanded to form part of the 10 stations in the project. If all goes as planned these bus stations should be complete by July.
Sesame Station
This new MyCiTi station will be built along AZ Berman Drive in Mitchells Plain, at the intersection of Sesame Street and AZ Berman Drive, between the R300 interchange and Sesame Street, in Lentegeur. The station will have two separate platforms and two entrances for passengers.
Residents can attend an information session on 3 September, from 15:00 to 17:00, at Living Stones Assembly of God, corner of Sesame and AZ Berman Drive, Mitchells Plain.
Hanover Park Station
The Hanover Park Station will be built in the middle of Govan Mbeki Drive in Philippi, between the pedestrian crossings at Jan Smuts Drive and Hanover Park Avenue. The station will have two platforms connected by two walkways, with a single entrance from the middle of the road. Space has also been set aside in the base of the station for a possible third platform to allow for future expansion.
Residents can attend an information session on 25 August, from 15:00 to 17:00, at Hanover Park Civic Centre, 0A Hanover Park Ave, Hanover Park.
Mitchells Plain Station expansion
The City plans to expand the existing Mitchells Plain Station to make room for the new Phase 2A services. The current station, near the intersection of First Avenue and Third Avenue in Mitchells Plain, has one platform with a single entrance. The construction will include completing platforms and access gates to prepare for a second station entrance in future.
Residents can attend an information session on 26 August, from 15:00 to 17:00, at Lobelia Community Hall, corner of Kreupelhout Lane and Lobelia Street, Mitchells Plain.
Part of a bigger plan
The City of Cape Town has developed the City-Wide Integrated Public Transport Network (IPTN) 2032, which sets out the long-term public transport network for Cape Town. It identifies what road-based public transport infrastructure is needed along the Lansdowne-Wetton Corridor.
