One suspect has been arrested after three armed men robbed a spaza shop in Darwin Road, Kraaifontein.

According to Kobus Kotze spokesperson at Titanium Securitas, the suspects entered the shop, forced everyone inside to lie on the ground, and proceeded to rob the store.

“During the robbery, a panic signal was activated and received by the Titanium Securitas Control Centre. By coincidence, members of the Titanium Securitas Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) were already travelling along Darwin Road. They responded immediately and arrived as the suspects were exiting the shop,” says Kotze.

“The suspects jumped into a maroon vehicle and fled towards the N1, with CPU members giving chase. The suspects then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, jumping over a fence towards the N1. One suspect was apprehended inside the grounds of a nearby church, while the remaining two managed to escape with the stolen money and another firearm.”

Two imitation firearms were recovered during the incident. Kraaifontein police was contacted, and the apprehended suspect was handed over to police. The recovered firearms were also booked in at Kraaifontein police station.
