A male suspect was taken into custody in Kraaifontein yesterday morning after allegedly robbing people at gunpoint near a pedestrian footbridge in Hout Street, an area known for pedestrian robberies.

The arrest followed a swift response from the Titanium Securitas armed response team, who pursued and cornered the suspect before handing him over to police.

According to Titanium spokesperson Kobus Kotze, the incident was reported at 11:40 when a resident alerted the team to the suspect’s activities in the area. Officers immediately responded, prompting the suspect to flee on foot upon spotting their vehicles.

“Our officers immediately responded to the location. Upon noticing the Titanium Securitas vehicles, the suspect fled on foot. Officers pursued him and successfully cornered him in Dorp Street, where an imitation firearm was found in his possession,” Kotze said.

Kraaifontein police were contacted and, upon arrival, took the suspect into custody for further investigation relating to the possession of an imitation firearm and attempted robbery. The victims subsequently opened an attempted robbery case against the suspect.
