HENNENMAN — A 49-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged murder of his 46-year-old girlfriend in Phomolong, Hennenman, following a tragic domestic violence incident that was discovered by the victim’s young son.
On Saturday, 29 November, at approximately 06:50, police were summoned to a murder scene in Phomolong location. Upon arrival, officers were directed to a shack where the body of Mpho Gladys Nkhobo (46) was found lying on the floor.
According to information gathered at the scene, the victim’s 10-year-old son went to check on his mother that morning. However, when he entered the shack, he allegedly made the shocking discovery of his mother’s body lying on the floor with a knife wound to her chest. The child removed the knife and immediately sought help from his uncle, who contacted the police. Emergency services personnel declared the victim dead at the scene.
The traumatic discovery has highlighted the devastating impact of domestic violence on children, who often become unintended witnesses to such tragic events.

The motive for the murder will form part of ongoing police investigations. The alleged suspect was traced and subsequently arrested in Ventersburg after fleeing from the scene of the crime.
The accused appeared before the Hennenman Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 1 December, facing a charge of murder.
