KUGOMPO CITY – An 88-year-old woman’s life was cut short in an alleged violent attack in Tsholomnqa on Sunday morning, with police arresting a suspect hours after the incident.
The elderly woman was found deceased at Phozi Location in Tsholomnqa, outside KuGompo City in the Eastern Cape, at about 08:40 on 6 September.
Her death sparked an immediate police investigation, with officers working alongside community members to track down the person allegedly responsible.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said the suspect was subsequently traced and arrested.
The circumstances surrounding the woman’s death have not been disclosed, as police continue to investigate the incident.
The 22-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the KuGompo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 8 September, on a charge of murder.
The Eastern Cape SAPS expressed its condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Police said they would continue with the investigation and work to ensure that justice is served.
