A weekend worth talking about
With Muir College visiting for a full weekend of T20 and 50‑over cricket, Union High School cricket teams produced stirring victories, resilient efforts, and a host of individual highlights that will be remembered for years.
Union 2nd XI | Mbutywe sparks a thriller
The 2nd XI opened with a nail‑biting T20 win. Sibabalwe Mbutywe’s explosive 72 off 35 balls lifted Union to 128. With the ball, Alchano Japhta and Mbutywe shared six wickets, sealing a dramatic 3‑run victory. Saturday’s 50‑over clash saw Japhta (4/28) and Alejandro Mentor (2/10) shine, though Union fell short with the bat.
U15A | Two wins, all round brilliance
The U15A side enjoyed a perfect weekend. In the T20, Ryan Collett (53) anchored the innings before Aidan Ferreira (3/28) and Curen Willemse (2/9) bowled Union to a 69/8 win. In the 50‑over match, Dante Mills (44) led the batting, while Thimna Qomfu (4/17) and Lwandle Dali (3/36) ensured a commanding victory.
Union’s 1st XI | Centuries, hat tricks and fireworks
The 1st XI also produced headline‑grabbing performances. Callum Jacobs smashed 116 off 63 balls*, supported by Richard Murray (53), as Union posted 199 in the T20. Then came Josh Kingwill’s extraordinary spell: 5 wickets in 9 balls, including a hat‑trick, conceding just 3 runs. Union won by 98 runs. In the 50‑over fixture, Jaco de Klerk’s blistering 70 off 29 balls turned a solid total into a formidable 351, sealing a 112‑run victory.

Confidence and celebration
From Mbutywe’s explosive batting to Jacobs’ century, Kingwill’s hat‑trick, and Qomfu’s four‑wicket haul, Union’s weekend was certainly filled with moments that build confidence and showcase the joy of schoolboy cricket.
