Schools Hockey Kearsney College vs St Albans on Mason Astro


Kearsney welcomed St Albans to the Mason Astro on Saturday for what proved to be an excellent day of schools’ hockey, Kearsney College against St Albans. It was also a fitting conclusion to the 2026 season for both 1st XI teams.

The fixture formed part of a valued inter-provincial exchange between the two schools. The day’s competitive nature was evident throughout the various age-group encounters, culminating in a hard-fought clash.

St Albans were rewarded with the opening goal of the match. The boys took a deserved lead as they looked to finish their season on a high note. Kearsney created several promising opportunities and controlled possession for long stretches. But St Albans showed resilience and determination to open the score.

The hosts found an equaliser, ensuring the teams went into the latter stages of the match level. Despite both sides continuing to search for a winning goal, with Kearsney generating multiple short corner opportunities, strong defensive efforts and disciplined structures at either end meant neither team could find the decisive breakthrough.

A special mention must be made of the Kearsney matric players. For the last time, the boys represented their school on the Mason Astro. Their contribution over the years has been significant. They leave having played an important role in Kearsney hockey’s growth and development. 

While Saturday’s result may have ended evenly, the occasion served as a fitting celebration of schoolboy hockey and a memorable way to conclude the 2026 season.
